Lodge History

Pine Portage Lodge located on Kabinakagami Lake, Watson's Algoma Vacations year round Reservation office 1-800-363-4443 is located in Wawa, Ontario, Canada
In 1941 at the age of 18 Dick Watson Sr. joined the R.C.A.F. and went to serve his country. After four years of flying fighter planes and being shot down three times, he returned home in 1945 as a war hero. It was at this time that he decided to fulfill his dreams of starting a tourism business on Kabinakagami Lake using his military earnings. Dick and his wife Edna married in 1946 and together they began to build their future at Pine Portage Lodge.

I STAND TO BE CORRECTED ON MY LAST POST.....WINTER IS BACK

Well we thought Mother Nature was going to give us a break this year on an early spring. I guess she really is full of surprises. We are experiencing a major snow storm here in Wawa. We are expected to get at least 5 - 10 cm of the white stuff. Highway 17 between Sault Ste. Marie and Wawa has been closed since lunch time due to poor visibility from white out conditions and three tractor trailers jackknifed on the highway. But do not fret good news is that it is all suppose to clear by morning and Spring is suppose to reappear. Most of the rivers and lakes up north near Pine Portage are almost opened with just a little ice on them. Wawa Lake is almost ice free with the remainder being more like 'Honeycomb ice' which with a little help from the wind will be gone in a couple of days. I will try and post some pictures for your viewing tomorrow. So keep in touch!!!

There was no snow left on the Portage trail behind camp until Thursday's snow storm

Had to break a little ice coming in on Pine Portage Lake located at the back of the Lodge

In this photo below, two Otters had come up the hole in the ice on the Oba River near Pine Portage with a Perch, they got scared and left their catch on the ice, but I am sure they came back for it or the Ravens got it

The bay in front of Pine Portage is opened but there is still quite a bit of ice at 1st gap and on the main lake area
DON'T FORGET TO GET YOUR FISHING VACATION BOOKED FOR 2010. WE STILL HAVE SOME SPACES AVAILABLE.

A LOOK BACK IN TIME!!!!!!

Mr. Richard Watson Sr. has always had a poem to add to our News Letters.  Since he hasn't done it for a few years I thought maybe those of you that have been with us for awhile and remember reading them or those of you that have not had the opportunity to read them would enjoy a 'Look back in Time'
