In 1941 at the age of 18 Dick Watson Sr. joined the R.C.A.F. and went to serve his country. After four years of flying fighter planes and being shot down three times, he returned home in 1945 as a war hero. It was at this time that he decided to fulfill his dreams of starting a tourism business on Kabinakagami Lake using his military earnings. Dick and his wife Edna married in 1946 and together they began to build their future at Pine Portage Lodge.

Was it Beginners Luck or Skill!!!!

Rick & Lore Botham from Adrian, MI stopped by our booth at the Outdoorama held at the Rock Financial in Novi, MI last winter. After visiting many outfitters at the show they decided to take a chance on us. Lore caught a beautiful 5.5# 24.5" Walleye and Rick caught a nice Northern Pike the next day. She even had the experience of having a little black bear that helped her get rid of her garbage one day at their shorelunch. But not to worry Rick was there to protect her 'Right Rick' as the story was told. I hope they will have alot of memories and good laughs to share with their friends and family about their fishing experience at Pine Portage Lodge. We do hope you both have had a great time. It is always nice to meet two great people like you and we do hope we lived up to your expectations. Thank's for the great pictures and thanks to Rick for being such a great sport putting up with all the flack we gave him about the bear. We hope to see both of you again, who knows maybe next year.

As I Promised the Biggest Walleye Caught this Year So Far!!! TAKE A LOOK

Dean Kruse of Auburn, Indiana has just celebrated his 56th year with us at Pine Portage Lodge. At the age of eight years old he made his first trip with his dad Russel Kruse to Pine Portage Lodge. Until his dad's passing a few year ago they continued their yearly tradition together. Now Dean makes his memorial trip with friends and family. We always look forward to his visits, he is a great person and friend to all of us here at Pine Portage Lodge. This year he had a great catch (shown below). It was great seeing all of you again and look forward to next year.

As we promised here are the pictures of Dean Kruse with his 10# 26.5" Walleye. You can see the girth on this fish was so large that he was just able to get his hands around it. WOW!!! What a catch. He also took the picture and released this great catch for another year!!!!

...."And What A Catch That Was"

Seven year old Walt Zacher of Buffalo, New York caught his biggest fish on Kabinakagami Lake yesterday. When the Walleye took the bait and snatched his "Lucky Lure" there was no way he was loosing this fish. With his rod bent so much that the tip was in the water, he was able to keep it "Hooked" so his Guide could net it. He couldn't wait to get back to the Lodge to add his name to the "Wall of Fame". Here's a quote right from the fisherman himself: "He tugged twice and than the third tug I new he was on my hook. He was tugging so hard I thought I was going to go water skiing. I was happy and told Bill "get the net, get the net".

Way to go Walt that really is an Awesome fish, those fish better watch out for you, who knows what secret Lure you will be using tomorrow!!!!

May not have been the big Pike but it was an Awesome Walleye!!!!

This time last week we were enjoying the fishing after a great lunch in Boot Bay. It was so great to be back at such a beautiful place with such warm hospitality. We feel like part of the family. Fishing this year was awesome. We caught over 525 walleye between us and several were really nice size. I'm not happy with my photos but Bob insisted I send pics of the one just over 27 inches. May you have a very blessed season and be safe in all of your travels. Hope we are able to see you again in 2010.

Thanks for your pictures Debbie, we are not sure why you don't like them, I think you had mention something about your wardrobe, but we all know that you needed all the layers that day!!!! The pictures are great and even though you didn't catch your Big Pike this year you certainly caught an awesome Walleye. Maybe next year Bob will even make the "Wall of Fame"
We're glad that you feel you are both part of the family because we feel the same way. Take care and we really hope to see you both next year.
