In 1941 at the age of 18 Dick Watson Sr. joined the R.C.A.F. and went to serve his country. After four years of flying fighter planes and being shot down three times, he returned home in 1945 as a war hero. It was at this time that he decided to fulfill his dreams of starting a tourism business on Kabinakagami Lake using his military earnings. Dick and his wife Edna married in 1946 and together they began to build their future at Pine Portage Lodge.

"WOW ANOTHER 20 POUNDER".......Dunham Party 2009

Dave Dunham from Burlington, ON. caught this great fish weighing in at 20# 41" what a nice catch.

Of course Dunham Sr. couldn't be out done by his son so he had to catch one too. Now there was quite the debate going on about who had the biggest fish. Sr. said his was 40" but their scale had broken so they couldn't weigh it. So we will let you decide!!!!!

.......And so pure Matthew had to endure the debate, we sure all day long. As we recall a couple of years ago you where the one with the big Northern..........and there was no debating that one.

It is always a pleasure when you visit our lodge we have such great fun joking with each other........And of course"I'M ALWAYS THE ONE WITH THE LAST LAUGH" right John..........

Temple Party arrives today.

John Temple & Christopher Laub are spending their 17th year with us here at Pine Portage Lodge. Dan and Steve are trying to catch up to them. Just remember guys we plan on adding more to this blog so bring in the pictures. Last year they had an awesome year of fishing and are looking forward to this one being even better. I will keep you updated on their progress this year.

Steve Temple with his 44" and 40" Northern Pike
Hello Mary Ellen: Attached are a couple of fish photos for your blog. The first is a 44 inch and the second a forty, not too bad for a novice fisherman like myself. Our group of four had yet another fantastic experience at Pine Portage catching just shy of 500 pike for the week, all of which were released successfully so they will be available next year when we return, all an inch or so bigger.
Thanks so much for your usual level of superb hospitality. The accommodations were great and we're already making our plans for next year.
All the best!
Steve Temple

Maledon Party 2009 Fishing Trip

Hi Mary Ellen-

Thank you again for the great hospitality during our fishing trip. As Charley told you, it was the best fishing he has experienced in all the 17 years he has come. I am some fishing photo's and video's, feel free to use any of them on your blog site.

Regards, Steve Gaarenstroom.

Charlie motoring again!!!!

Jeff and J.R. haven't figured out yet you can't catch the fish when your line is around your prop!!!!

Steve's 27" Northern

Charlie's winning 20.5" Walleye!!!

Nice Catch Junior

Jeff's Perch

J.R. cooking again

Thanks for the Photo's and Video's Steve, we were able to use the photo's but seem to be having problems uploading the video's.

P.S. I'll tell 'Nancy' she was the best waitress Charley has had in the last 17 years also. lol :}

17" IN TODAY!!!!!!

Michael Reed caught a big one yesterday (himself) with a treble hook that I took out of his finger. But today he really caught a big one and took the hook out himself. He caught a 17# 42" Northern Pike and he was really excited. Some of the guys back at camp could hear him a mile away. Awesome Fish Mike!!!
STASA PARTY 2009

Rainbow in the Morning ??? Wow first time this year

We actually missed the best part of this rainbow but was able to salvage part of it. We never saw the sun but it must have been there somewhere. We have had enough rain this summer for a lot of rainbows but not enough sun!!! Oh well we shouldn't complain, it sure made for good fishing.

Fournier Party 2009

The Fournier Party of three enjoyed their first trip to Pine Portage Lodge. They caught this big Northern Pike in the evening "somewhere on the lake" they wouldn't tell us their secret hole.
It was great having you guys with us this year and hope to see all of you in the future.
Take care!

Sorry we forgot Sharyn & Tom

The Northern was caught on ultra light tackle, no steel, and took about 30 minutes to land.
WHAT FUN!!!
It was 39" and 13 lbs. That was on July 14th/09. The next morning, we started with doubles on the Walleye......mine was the larger on, a 23", and Tom's was 21". At least I caught one that was larger than his! We caught over 100 fish that day....Any day that you can do that is a great one!
Hope to see you in 2010! Tom and Sharyn Miller.

TODAY AT PINE PORTAGE LODGE:

Well today is Monday, August 17th 2009 all ready. The time seems to be flying by which may be the case today with the winds being a little high. We have a nice sunny sky today with the winds out of West which as they say "fishing's the best". The fishing has been excellent, yesterday the Nagy party hit the "jack pot" on walleye and northern both. Well hopefully we will have some more fish pictures and stories to post for those of you that are following our blog. Feel free to leave a comment, let me know what you think of the blog or if you would like to see different pictures like maybe some of the cabins, main lodge or just outside pics. Let us know and we will do my best to put it on for you.

LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR COMMENTS, DON'T BE SHY!!!!

They even come from Switzerland to catch walleye!!

Lina and Marcus Baumann from Liestal, Switzerland have made a few trips to Pine Portage Lodge over the years. It is always with great pleasure that we get to share their fishing experience on Kabinakagami Lake. They always have great stories to tell about their fishing day and also Lina's attraction to "pets". One year she had a skunk that seemed to always be around when she was and this year she had a garder snake. She takes it all in stride and just laughs about it. It is always a pleasure having you with us and hope you will continue to visit with us.
Marcus promised me today that he would try and get more pictures of Lina with her eyes opened l0l

Marcus you are suppose to wait until Lina has her eyes opened!!!

GO AHEAD I DARE YOU!!!!!
Awesome picture, he looks like he is ready to take off!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 'JUNIOR'

Well JR Muccino was here to celebrate another birthday. He wouldn't tell us how old though. We didn't have the whole Maledon crew to celebrate with us this year but we where able to surprise him anyway. We miss all the rest of you guy's so maybe next year we can get you all together again. Just to let you know Charlie is keeping me on my toes even though he doesn't have any help from the rest of you.

We sure we will be adding more pics to this blog so keep in touch!!!!

Gotta love the hat :}
